U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln today voted for the Defense Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2010, legislation that helps provide our men and women in uniform with the resources and equipment they need to defend our nation and complete their missions abroad.

"For those currently serving in the military and for those who have served in the past, I remain committed to making every effort to care for them and their families and to honor the benefits they have earned," Lincoln said. "These heroes have placed themselves in harm's way to defend the freedoms we cherish as Americans, and it is the least we can do to honor their courage and sacrifice and to reassure future generations that we value their service."

Among other provisions, the legislation provides servicemembers with a 3.4 percent pay raise, makes needed investments in health care for our troops, and provides additional support for military families, including investments in quality child care, job training, and counseling and outreach efforts.

In addition, the Defense Appropriations bill funds a number of Arkansas priorities that are critical to the state's military installations, research institutions, and defense contractors.
